Mentoring, including reverse mentoring

My experience with mentoring and its different forms

Wojciech Szczepanik

I have had the pleasure of taking part in several mentoring relationships in the standard mentor-mentee model.

I am grateful to the following people, in chronological order:

  • Arek Zwierzyński, who first shaped my way of thinking about work and introduced me to the “Doctrine of Quality”.
  • Michał Guzowski, who gave me room to act from the moment we met and, more importantly, helped me organise many things in my head.
  • Filip Nowak and his team at Łukasiewicz PIT. I met them when they were my course participants, and we immediately built a great relationship.
  • The Polish Google Cloud team. They may not realise it, but my energetic partner activity was one long learning experience.
  • Tomasz Grochowski from PMI Poland Chapter. Through PMI’s mentoring programme, he taught me many nuances of project management and helped me work through current problems.
  • My last mentor, who prefers to remain anonymous. I cannot omit the enormous amount of business and negotiation knowledge I gained, as well as lessons about building a company and relationships at scale. I now feel confident speaking with anyone, regardless of the size of a project or budget.

I must also mention my parents, whom I consider my greatest and first teachers in life.

Professionally, I have also had many opportunities to share what I have learned and stand on the other side of the relationship. Being both a student and a teacher produces excellent results and keeps the ego in check. That is why I would like to offer reverse mentoring or co-mentoring meetings.

Introduction

Reverse mentoring is a learning model in which a younger person becomes a mentor to an older person. Co-mentoring is a model in which two people with different skills and experiences work together to gain knowledge and develop their abilities.

Forbes has also written about the value of this approach. Young entrepreneurs should also look into the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs programme.

Let us build a mentor-mentee relationship

Co-mentoring with me is a way to develop skills and gain a new perspective on running a business in the age of modern technology. Topics may include:

  • digital workplaces
  • asynchronous work
  • personal productivity
  • cloud computing
  • citizen development
  • teal management
  • Generation Z entering the labour market
  • and much more

I love listening, especially to anecdotes, which are often the most memorable. Together we can combine youthful energy and business experience to create real value for both sides. You can reach me through [[Kontakt]].

As a mentee

I would like to work with conscious entrepreneurs who see real value in organisational innovation, both technical and relational, as well as in personal productivity.

As a mentor

It may be bold to call myself a mentor already, but why not talk with energetic young people who want to direct their energy? I will help and point them towards the right place to the best of my knowledge.
